Quote of the day

“Realists appealed to [Michael] Collins. There would be no more glorious protests in arms, he decided. He built a cadre of realists around him, first in the IRB, then at Volunteer headquarters, where he took over Pearse’s old post as Director of Organization before becoming Director of Intelligence, finally in Dáil Eireann, as the underground government’s very effective Minister for Finance. Collins was a doer. Essentially a well-informed opportunist with very few scruples, his entire ideology could be stated in five words: ‘The Irish should govern themselves.’” Sean Cronin, “Irish Nationalism: A History of its Roots and Ideology”

Irish demographics today, from wikipedia:

Irish (including dual-Irish/other): 86.9%, UK: 2.5%

Ethnic backgrounds: White Irish: 84.5%

It's a shame they're headed towards diversity again. Why can't a nation secede and remain a nation-state? It's ridiculous. People fight and die, and the same problems remain.

I'm not saying, "Know despair". I'm saying "Know humility".

One of Sam Francis's criticisms of secession in the US is that new seceding polities would be hindered by the same root problems. They'd end up importing cheap workers. So, let's be sure whatever root problems we have are addressed and fixed, so our grandchildren don't have to secede anew.

The recipe for seceding or otherwise gathering people to accomplish any goal is to keep things simple. Aiming just for self-rule is enough for now.

I don't wish to undermine the spirit.

Just say it out loud and listen to how sweet it sounds:

"The South should govern itself."
